Rubber lined pneumatic actuated diaphragm valve
Pneumatic diaphragm valves are a type of valve that uses a flexible diaphragm to control the flow of fluids or gases. The diaphragm is mounted to a valve body, creating a barrier between the actuating components and the process medium. Pneumatic actuators, which use pressurized air or gas to create linear or rotational motion, control the diaphragm’s movement.
Structure and Mechanism
A typical pneumatic actuated diaphragm valve comprises the following components:
- Valve body: Made from materials such as WCB, SS316, or SS316L, the valve body acts as the housing for the diaphragm and other components.
- Diaphragm: A flexible membrane, commonly made from EPDM or EPDM+PTFE materials, separates the actuator from the process medium, eliminating the need for additional sealing elements.
- Pneumatic actuator: Using a double-acting, single-acting normally closed, or single-acting normally open control system, the actuator applies force to the diaphragm, controlling the valve’s opening and closing.
- Ends: The inlet and outlet flange connections that mechanically and pressure seal with pipelines. These are available in standard designations such as ASME B16.34 class 150/300, DIN PN16/20, or JIS 10K/20K.
- Pneumatic accessories: Solenoid valves, limit switch boxes, filters, E/P positioners, and handwheels are used for additional control and functionality.
Applications Across Industries
Pneumatic diaphragm valve are widely used across various sectors, including:
- Chemical processing: These valves are well-suited for handling corrosive and aggressive media due to their rubber-lined body and diaphragm materials, which provide chemical resistance.
- Pharmaceutical and biotech: Their ability to maintain sterility and provide leak-tight seals make them ideal for use in hygienic applications and clean-room environments.
- Water and wastewater: These valves are commonly used for controlling flow in water treatment plants and other related applications.
- Food and beverage: They are suitable for hygienic requirements and are often used for controlling flow in processes such as pasteurization and ingredient dosing.
